Midori is a brand of muskmelon liqueur created in Japan in 1899 and introduced to the US market in 1978.
Until 1986, it was exclusively produced in Japan. Currently, it is also produced in Mexico and France, the latter version being considered significantly sweeter than the already sweet Japanese formula.
Meaning of "Midori"[]
Contrary to popular belief, "Midori" is NOT an Italian or Spanish word; it is Japanese and is generally translated as "green", though "bright green" or "emerald" may be a better translation.
