Ice cubes

Ice cubes

Ice is the solid form of water. Ice cubes or crushed ice can be used to cool drinks. As the ice melts, it absorbs heat and keeps the drink near 0 °C.

Ice cubes are small, roughly cube-shaped pieces of ice, conventionally used to cool beverages. Ice cubes are often preferred over crushed ice because they melt more slowly; they are standard in mixed drinks that call for ice, in which case the drink is said to be "on the rocks". Another use for ice, usually in the form of cubes, is placing them in a cocktail shaker with a drink to be chilled; it is then shaken, strained of ice and served "Straight Up", usually in a stemmed glass.
